Dog Trots Globe

Look at that face! This is Chula, an eleven year-old Sheltie who will steal your heart and perhaps your baguette if you aren’t careful!

I was so delighted to come across the utterly adorable e-book “Dog Trots Globe” by Sheron Long, in which Chula shares her experience living in nearby St. Remy while exploring the heart of Provence–not to mention a glamorous trip to Paris. Now, I know that my fellow dog lovers (and even the one cat lover here–you know who you are!) will get such a kick out of this. Sheron comes from a long career in publishing, so be ready for a gorgeous interactive layout but also be prepared to be caught off guard with a fit of the giggles, as I was several times while reading it.

And for those of you ready to turn up your nose (or your muzzle) at a story told from a dog’s point of view, don’t you dare! For the all of the facts are interesting ones,  details about life in France are spot on and wittily observed. Even my Ben could not have done a finer job.

I was equally charmed by the delightful photographs as I was by the adept illustrations by Darius Detwiler. This book would definitely make a lovely gift for your francophile friends this summer. I hope that you enjoy meeting Chula as much as I did–a rendezvous is in the works for her to romp with Ben in the Alpilles this fall…to be continued…

  2. Four times, Judy?! I can't imagine Ben getting on a plane. Gus is an old pro at it! And wow, a life split between SF and Provence is a pretty fabulous one…

  3. I just order the book for my iPad. My lab, Gus has come with us from San Francisco to Provence 4 times. We have a house close to Maussane and since we are usually gone for several months, it only makes sense that Gus come along. I am certainly looking forward to reading this book. Thank you for suggesting it.

  6. What a gorgeous dog! Having always been a cat person, I have to say that living in France has given me an appreciation for these little guys. So on top of learning how to cook, I have opened up to canine friends. Merci la France..and thank you for sharing this cute book! : )

  7. An imaginative idea – and couldn't one have fun playing the dog perspective! Would be a food tour of france, I suspect.

  8. I love it! One of my very best girl friends loves France almost as much as she is crazy about dogs. I think this would make the perfect gift for her. And Chula could show me around Provence anytime! Have a lovely week with your Sister, Heather. XO

  9. Hello Heather
Thanks for info about this book. Finally, a book about a dog that brings forth smiles! A Dogs' life and The Art of Racing in the Rain are two books about dogs I have recently read and they are sad and heavy; both are very good books, however, esp. The last one mentioned. Have a great visit with your sister!

  10. Ha ha, I love this sort of thing! The best present my hubs gave me which still makes me cry my eyes out, was a really scrappy homemade book, in which he had taken a childhood toy all over town, taken it's photograph doing things I love like buying a mocha, and written captions and a storyline. I cried for hours that Christmas Day!

  11. Hello Heather

This looks like a delightful book. I shall pass on details to my friend, they have two shelties. The drawing and photos are exquisite. How lovely that Ben has such a famous celebrity friend!

    Helen xx
