Allow me this

I know
you’ll say
with a pat of
a reassuring hand
“It will come again,
It will.
There will be another.”
And while
you mean well
and I even believe you
this morning
my skin
is longing
to be touched
and lightly,
my lips
to be brushed
with a kiss, sweet
and my eyes
to be held
in a gaze beyond
fondness, stirring
shared.
Allow me this.
For I am open
but missing,
not “him”
more than
another
for
a deep breath
of love’s burning
smoke.

  1. Let's add that to the list of: "Ideas that would never have occurred to me in a Million Years". Hmmph. I can't imagine it, but maybe I should try? EEEEEEEEE.

  2. Your talents as a wordsmith (and photographer) are matched only by your gifts as a performer. What if you performed more of your own work? Is there a space where you could do that?

  3. Oh, Heather! Distilled pain, raw longing.
You are such a fine wordsmith, but you also have A Voice, in every sense of the term. Have you thought of doing performances of your own writing?

  4. The openness to love is what fuels the perpetuation of our humanity. Good for you, Heather!

  5. An empath I most certainly am, as you know, along with the constraints that can put upon a person…but…I am also a classically trained theatre actress so maybe my not sounding typically American (of which there are many variations) can also be linked to that? Much love to you and gratitude for our complicity!

  6. We allow you this and so much more. What a beautiful voice you have Heather. I thought it would sound well, more American somehow, and more high-pitched.

  7. I'll second the opinion on your beautiful voice and accent. Having lived abroad for 16 years I'm often told the same thing. I read somewhere once that people who are empathetic pick up accents and nuances of language more easily than those who aren't, so it speaks to your love for others that you don't sound quite like an American anymore.

  8. Maria? I almost didn't publish this but I thought, "I can't be the only one. I can at least try to put something out there."
Sending Love and Strength to you.

  9. I did, Jackie. Thank you. Et ça me touche beaucoup que tu as le partager avec ton marie.

  10. My beautiful friend. Today is a new day. We just have to go through each of these landmarks and then…
    Sending you so much Strength.

  11. A very moving poem. You have a beautiful voice Heather, almost English, which surprised me. I guess you have lived abroad for so long that it's now more of an international accent.

  12. very very moving for us the lonely hearts. And your voice so clear, so concentrated and moving too brought me more near you

  13. Did you write this beautiful poem? I was so taken by your voice earlier that only now as I played it for my husband it occurred to me that there is no credit.

  14. I got goose bumps listening to your recording…you have a very strong voice and you read this poem with such emotion…perfect pitch, one cannot be unmoved by the words.
    XO

  15. Allowing you! I know you even better now, through your beautiful voice. Thank you for telling out loud exactly what is also in my heart, not just on this heart day. With my recent challenges I'm feeling this oh so much. I understand!

  16. This was lovely in words, photos and your voice touches my soul.

Happy Valentine's Day dear Heather ~ Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady

  17. yes, I join the chorus about your reading. And add I soft, deep me to sigh to the meaning of the poem. I look around in the streets and think …and never even saw him, now buried in Tunisia. You missed so much.

  18. The words and your voice convey such intensity, conviction and sincerity!
Sending love and best thoughts to you this Valentines Day.

  19. Ah – beautiful! The prose and the voice, the photo and the feeling. Silly day, right? But sad; can't help but think back or, with hope, forwards. Thank you for making it into something lovely. And Judith is right – that voice is meant to be used, and heard! Sending you lots of love today, my Valentine! xoxox
