Night Light

I love that at this time of year even Evening’s swanning light cooperates with Mr. Electricity to say, “Happy Holidays!”
Do you see it too?

So much gold shining bright…

…mixed with wondrous sapphire skies keeping the Christmas star well-hidden until the night of the 24th.

There is peace here…
…within a quiet so profound that my footsteps, my breathing feels muffled, scarf-covered and warm.

Or maybe that is just how it is for me in this little corner of Provence.

I am thinking of you all and that it has been over four years for me of writing at Lost in Arles. I have seen so much beautiful spirit in the blogging community recently and not only because of the time of year. I find it incredibly inspiring and hope that you do as well. May we all continue to be night lights for each other in the dark.

Camera update: These were taken with an SLR that Remi is lending me. Apparently, I don’t know as much about working in manual as I thought that I did. But I will get there and it still felt wonderful to head out with a camera in hand just because I could. Thanks for staying with me during this bumpy time. And if your eyes are left lacking, there is always the archives to dig into. 😉

With my Best from Provence,
Heather

  1. Sweet blog! I found it while browsing on Yahoo News.

Do you have any suggestions on how to get listed in Yahoo News?
I've been trying for a while but I never seem to get there!
    Appreciate it

  2. Yes, you DID leave amusing comments on my blog posts but after the buttermilk incident. 🙂 Who would have ever thought that friends could be made over buttermilk? And thank you for that…do you think the book could help me? I just can't get the math in my head.

  3. He's right. Your photos are atmospheric, moody, dreamy… I used to have trouble with the technical aspects of photography but I bought a book at the V&A called, "Read this if you Want to Take Great Photographs" by Henry Carroll. He lays it all out so simply. I highly recommend it. Did we really meet over buttermilk? Funny, I thought it was the amusing comments I left on your blog posts.

  4. Auric!! What a wonderful word! I think you have an auric quality coming out of your heart…

  5. Merci dear Jeanne. This is probably as close to a real Christmas post as I am going to get and I know that I can always count on you to "get it" and be supportive. Actually, we have become friends by being cheerleaders for each other! Looking forward to spending time with you again some day, either there or here…
    Gros Bisous!
And I have no worries that you will enjoy the wonder of the season…you already have!

  6. Wow, you're right! Thank you, blog!! 🙂 But don't forget that we first made contact via Smitten Kitchen because you kindly offered an alternative to buttermilk. Because you are thoughtful like that.

And wait to tell Remi what you said!! He has been saying it over and over again. And I AM lucky. Although honestly if I don't get a better idea of the aperture and shutter speed pairings soon, he might give up on me. They just don't compute. I think it is like learning how to play music. And I was just instinctively humming along but couldn't really read. Time to learn the notes! And thank you for your support…it is encouraging!! Remi says that my photos are more about mood. I agree with that.

  7. And the many dreams…and new homes. I just can't believe that we haven't met yet. It really seems odd, doesn't it?

  8. Thank you Lisa. And thank you for sharing yours too. Really, you have influenced me so much towards embracing beauty of the everyday kind.

    Happy Chriiiiistmaaaas!

  9. Heather, your photos are wonderful. You captured the silent, holy night just beautifully. I love the golden glow against the midnight sky. Thanks for all the inspiration you bring us with every word, every photo, every post. You are such beautiful and talented soul.

Wishing you many moments to just stop and soak in the magic and wonder of the season! XOXO

  10. Thank you so very much Bill. I am so moved by your words and your idea of what the little spaces we create both virtually and in our "real" lives can do. And I most certainly agree with you that there are no accidents about the "clicks" that can happen on the internet. Of the wonderful people like yourself, who are so generous with your comments and support…well, I do feel as though you are all friends. In the four years of my writing this blog, people have come and gone but so many of you have stayed and what an incredible, interesting group you all are. I definitely think that there are pinball dings of ideas and hopes that pass amidst all of us.

  11. Good, me too. 🙂

I took these on the way to the mini-market here and on the way back it was simply too dark without a tripod. So I got lucky!

  12. How did you find me??? It makes me want to go back in the comments to look for clues…maybe you saw a comment that I left on Vicki's or Sharon's blog that caught your eye?? And yes, thank you for all of the happiness and dreaming that you inspire…

  13. This is such a special Christmas for you Sister…your first in your amazing home…on a Christmas tree farm! It doesn't get better than that!!! Stay calm and carry on…I Love You!

  14. In "Auto" you're an observer. In "Manual" you become an artist. As least that's what I've learned through my journey so far. You're so lucky to have Remi there to guide you. Personally, I think your photos tell a story and they tell it well and that's a skill unto itself. PS. If it weren't for your blog we never would have met. How cool is that?

  15. Heather, in relation to blogging, I think it no mistake, nor chance encounter which brings like minded, common hearted, philosophically similar, and spiritually aligned souls together. How incredible that we can now gather at the speed of light .. being instantly reinforced and uplifted when one takes the time to blog with Higher Consciousness .. instantly providing not only a "gathering place" but also being a catalyst for like minded thinkers to congregate and uplift one another.

Mahalo & Congratulations, Heather, for being one of those who is living your passion / your "gift". By simply being in tune with who you are, you are gifting each of us with every post .. providing a place where we can "feel" one another and celebrate the existence of our beautiful world and those who populate it. Wishing you continued "attachment" and development of your gift and again thanking you for sharing..

  16. One of the hardest (at least for me) is to take photos with scanty or abundant light. You did so well with the golden reflections inside and out. And the bluish darkening sky watching.
I can wait for the stars.

  17. You read my mind! What kind of camera is she using! The color the light the GOLD………..Sapphire blue……..Boy OH BOY did these PHOTOS POP!
Has it only been FOUR years? Are you sure…………….feels like a LIFETIME for me!

  18. There's nothing lacking here in these images. They positively glow! The photo with the window and the last one look like paintings with gold leaf added. Gorgeous luminosity Heather and I like what you have captured as peace. Peace and joy, quite separate from, as your sister says "shopping like a maniac" that's what we need to stop and take stock of. As always, loved your post!
    Cheers,

  19. There is a stark beauty to your petit coin de Provence that is both eerie and stunning. The pictures are beautiful Heather, as are your words.

    xo

  20. My eyes are not left lacking!! I love these glowy night pics; methinks #'s 4 & 6 look like paintings! I wish we had more gold here, but I do feel peacefulness where I am. Especially when I remember to stop shopping like a maniac and just look at the beautiful land and sky – thanks for reminding me to do that!

  21. Heather I love the warmth and light of images taken at night or sundown. I find them so mesmerizing!
