Night Light

I love that at this time of year even Evening’s swanning light cooperates with Mr. Electricity to say, “Happy Holidays!” 
Do you see it too?

So much gold shining bright…

…mixed with wondrous sapphire skies keeping the Christmas star well-hidden until the night of the 24th.

There is peace here…
…within a quiet so profound that my footsteps, my breathing feels muffled, scarf-covered and warm.

Or maybe that is just how it is for me in this little corner of Provence.

I am thinking of you all and that it has been over four years for me of writing at Lost in Arles. I have seen so much beautiful spirit in the blogging community recently and not only because of the time of year. I find it incredibly inspiring and hope that you do as well. May we all continue to be night lights for each other in the dark.

Camera update: These were taken with an SLR that Remi is lending me. Apparently, I don’t know as much about working in manual as I thought that I did. But I will get there and it still felt wonderful to head out with a camera in hand just because I could. Thanks for staying with me during this bumpy time. And if your eyes are left lacking, there is always the archives to dig into. 😉

  3. Yes, you DID leave amusing comments on my blog posts but after the buttermilk incident. 🙂 Who would have ever thought that friends could be made over buttermilk? And thank you for that…do you think the book could help me? I just can't get the math in my head.

Your photos are atmospheric, moody, dreamy… I used to have trouble with the technical aspects of photography but I bought a book at the V&A called, "Read this if you Want to Take Great Photographs" by Henry Carroll. He lays it all out so simply. I highly recommend it. Did we really meet over buttermilk? Funny, I thought it was the amusing comments I left on your blog posts.

    And wait to tell Remi what you said!! He has been saying it over and over again. And I AM lucky. Although honestly if I don't get a better idea of the aperture and shutter speed pairings soon, he might give up on me. They just don't compute. I think it is like learning how to play music. And I was just instinctively humming along but couldn't really read. Time to learn the notes! And thank you for your support…it is encouraging!! Remi says that my photos are more about mood. I agree with that.

And I most certainly agree with you that there are no accidents about the "clicks" that can happen on the internet. Of the wonderful people like yourself, who are so generous with your comments and support…well, I do feel as though you are all friends. In the four years of my writing this blog, people have come and gone but so many of you have stayed and what an incredible, interesting group you all are.   27. One of the hardest (at least for me) is to take photos with scanty or abundant light. You did so well with the golden reflections inside and out. And the bluish darkening sky watching.
    I can wait for the stars.

  29. There's nothing lacking here in these images. They positively glow! The photo with the window and the last one look like paintings with gold leaf added. Gorgeous luminosity Heather and I like what you have captured as peace. Peace and joy, quite separate from, as your sister says "shopping like a maniac" that's what we need to stop and take stock of.   31. My eyes are not left lacking!! I love these glowy night pics; methinks #'s 4 & 6 look like paintings! I wish we had more gold here, but I do feel peacefulness where I am. Especially when I remember to stop shopping like a maniac and just look at the beautiful land and sky – thanks for reminding me to do that!
