Green

I love to see synchronicity coursing through the internet, giving little zaps as it zips along. Fellow Provençale transplant Vicki Archer of French Essence asked the question today: “Do you take photographs in colour waves?” Beh oui, I do and some of my very favorite posts have come about from that line of sight. Not to mention, in the “Great Minds…” category (a-hem), I had already planned to share these emerald tainted photo slices. How do you like them apples?
These were all taken on the same afternoon of our farewell luncheon in the Luberon, as I sucked in the sun with sweet contentment. Little did I know that they would end up being an Ode to the Spring that Never Came. Ooh spring, why do you hide? Why must I must painfully try to explain your absence like an unfaithful lover? Or something like that. For we have had nothing but rain and the temperatures are the coldest that they have been in years (“Je crois depuis les 1800 et quelques,” decried the gentle lady on the quay with her blind bloodhound baying at her side). Yesterday, Remi and I took a rare break at a café for our first “Monaco” of the season and the waiter announced that the temperature had dropped eleven degrees (Celsius) within the past two days. No wonder everyone was a-chooing around us. And sure as shootin’, when I took the pups out thirty minutes later, the sky chose that precise moment to open up and let go. Merci!
Everyone is cranky, even Kipling, who is tired of me towel-drying the disco crimps on his ears.
And me?
I am positively green. Green with what I will let you infer…all while wishing you a Bon Weekend

  1. We must have made off with your spring (reverse syncronicity?): we had many warm and sunny days, and a record dry streak, until mid-May, then record-rains until June 1, and now warm, sunny dry days for, most likely, the rest of the summer! My son is on a meandering road trip north of you, roughly from Brive west to Cap Ferret, and I've noticed sunny skies and sunglasses in his Instagram photographs only since Saturday…hope some of that nice weather has made its way down to you!

With all the sun, then rain, we've had, it is lush green everywhere in the Willamette Valley…we're already having to prune back the wisteria and rhododendrons! And the rivers are warming up early! Back to you, with fond thoughts, Leslie in Portland, Oregon

  2. We were in Belgium & France in April and it was FREEZING cold! All those we met said it was unusually cold for that time of year. Ahh, at least you can have a Monaco to remind you of summer days! Bonne Chance! These photos are beautiful, as always

  3. We joke in Seattle about moss growing between our toes; or webs as in webbed feet. Hope the sun comes soon for you.

  4. Yay for the Greek Festival!!! And thank you so much for that photo, Sister–gosh, they looked SO happy that it made me happy! It was contagious! And I always think of you when the light is "just so"–you really taught me to look up in NYC.
    LOVE you!

  5. EE! How I do miss thee, let me count the ways…I do believe you were among my first "I don't even know this person!" readers. Hoping your French Folly is taking form!

  6. Bah, especially for those of Irish tendencies…? (I don't actually know what I mean by that but it sounds a little more…risqué than planned 😉

  7. You too, Edgar? My goodness, it seems as if the trying weather is world-wide right now.
Well, have a cool glass of white and try to enjoy.
Wishing you, admittedly belatedly, a wonderful weekend as well.

  8. Too, too hot! And I only get up at 6am to catch a flight. 😉
Merci pour nectar of spirit. That is gorgeous…
    Bon fin de weekend!

  9. Eee, sandstorms! Of course you get those Loree since you are closer to Africa. I should have thought of it. I have been through a few big ones in Mali and it was crazy…!

  10. I am wishing you many sustained days of sunny springtime and rising temperatures.

    Gorgeous musing. Delicious photographs.

  11. Great minds, indeed! I unconsciously was aware that you often display photos in color palettes – pink sunset hues or golden hues.. Love the green – green makes me so happy! I am always cognizant of the change from the solid grey of Michigan winters to the GREEN of summer – I don't need to remind myself to be grateful for it! Yes, we've also had deluge after deluge of rain these past few days; ok with me as it cools it down a bit, but it might impinge on Mom's "birthday weekend" plans of going to the Greek festival tonight – ruh-roh! Thanks for another beautiful post!!

  12. Spring green is full of promise and connection with nature makes my spirits soar. Bon week-end.

  13. Hi Heather, It has poured down rain here for several days, everything is very green. Now it looks like we will have a nice sunny weekend.
When we need rain in July /August there will be very little most likely!

  14. Hi Heather,
Shooting up and hanging down, the wet and the dry, dense and thin growth of greenery that promises a golden summer.

Upper 80’s and even up to the 90’s in Napa Valley this weekend.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  15. Agree with Loree on strange Spring. It is 90 degrees plus here in Boston today. This is after a unmerciful downpour this week. The garden loves it, but one must scurry to putter there at 6 a.m. to beat this kind of heat.

Love your thoughts on synchronicity Heather. It's the nectar of spirit.
Bon week-end a tout le monde

  16. It's been a strange spring. It was really nice in April but May has been really windy. We've had our cooler days and 3 or 4 awful sandstorms.
