Car wash

We took our old Saab for a ride today–yes, think “Sideways”.
Am I crazy? I found the bubbles beautiful…

Bon-weekend à toutes et à tous…

  2. Oup! (Give a French prononciation to that) Looks like David gave you an answer, Miss Ella. And no, we are too old-school for such new-fangled machines. And it certainly was too chilly for me to wait outside…

  3. Bah, if I wasn't a hundred percent convinced that you love your puppers as much as I love mine, I would be shaking my fist at you, old-lady style. But I know the truth, even if you are a biiit wicked, Mr. Terry.

  4. I usually am impatient while waiting for the car to be cleaned but since I had my camera with me, it shifted my perspective and now I will look at the experience as you do! Our Saab is amazing, ancient and so reliable–not to mention fast as the dickens when we ask it to be. (Or Remi does, I should say as I don't drive)

  5. Dear Mademoiselle Coquine…..yes, you can sit in the car during the car wash….at least here in North Carolina. Of course, we're also allowed to vote Jessye Helms into the senate for twenty-years-running and any number of other self-destructive things.

  6. You're not crazy for thinking the bubbles are beautiful! They are.

I love that you were allowed to sit in the car while it got washed. Was it one of those American-style automatic wash where you're sucked into the tunnel o' suds. I hear that you can't sit in the car in the States anymore. Bummer. That was the best part of doing an otherwise household chore!

  7. I LOVE taking the car or the truck through the local car-wash…..but I do it only if all the terriers are with me.

Neither you nor anyone else on God's Green Planet has any idea how much noise a pack of territorial terriers can (and do) make when the car wash starts up and begins suds-ing down THEIR territory. It's like the final battle scene in "Avatar".

    I know…if I were a nicer man, I wouldn't do this. But I'm not, and I do.

While I'm in this mood?….I'll also confess to occasionally putting on the video of "As Good As It Gets" (the movie with Jack Nicholson, an oppressed Helen Hunt, and a VERY prominent & barky jack-russell terrier). My oldest female terrier HATES the dog in that movie (there are many charming close-up shots of the damn dog as it barks at one of the actors). The two youngest males LOVE that terrier….they begin whining piteously…..and running out into the hallway behind the bedroom (as though the television were window showing a dog behind it). They whine and whine…all they want is to meet their new best-friend….and they can never find him.

    Sad, but true…..

    confessedly yours as ever,

    david Terry

  8. Great post Heather, refreshing and original! Just took my Saab for a wash last week and thought what fun it was to have those few minutes immersed in water and bubbles. Suspended in time until the door opens and its time to drive forward with your clean car. I love the bubbles & Saabs!

  9. Bubbles are pretty universal Clare! I hope that your rehersals are going well. 🙂

  10. The bubbles are pretty usually made more so because of Dylan dog by my side. Do you take Ben through with you? Dylan likes to watch all the happenings and I love watching his face. Try it with Ben.

  12. Very cool pics, Heather. I love that you took these haha! It's fun to know the little things that individuals find so fascinating.

  13. Yes, I see what you are saying, far better to have bubbles in a warm bath! Or in a coupe of champagne!

  14. I would think going to the carwash in LA would be something of a ritual, non? I imagine one's with a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf stand on the side…

  15. Thank you so much Leslie. I swear that looking for beauty in small things is what gets me through the winter months!

  16. You can have the bubbles, though I do see why they are attractive. What gets to me is the shapes they make on the dash. So if you're crazy, that makes two of us.

  17. One of our Most favor(u)rite things to Do when on a paternal weekend visit was go to the carwash and Thrill to the large brushes Zooming down the tracks and Covering the car with bubbles and then the Torrential Rainstorm aa the final rinse……..ah. Your pictures brought back memories. The trusty steed of silver prius is still very clean from its "detailing" before we picked him up.

    But soon……..soon……..

  18. I have a question for you on the weekend do you look at your laptop?Just wondering…………..the bubbles are bellisima!

  19. Stay warm! And yes, I have missed out on a lot lately when I was being lazy about bringing along my camera and am trying to learn from my mistakes!
    Bisous…

  20. The soapy bubbles do make beautiful designs. I've often thought so too! Although I can't go through the car wash without remembering that my daughter, who is now 20, as a little one was absolutely terrified when we would go through the carwash! I often look at it and wonder what as a toddler would have been so scary? Maybe those big metal arms with hairy things attached, coming over and descending on the car, like a giant spider! Cheers, Deborah from Melbourne.

  21. You are NOT crazy. That is a lesson in noticing the beauty in simple everyday happenings!!

  22. You know….. a friend of mine says that the best camera is the one you have with you. Lesson learned here, my friend. Love the bubbles! Bon-weekend (from the land of frigid cold and harsh wind.)

  23. I love the carwash bubbles, too. In fact, I've thought of making an art quilt using them as part of the design.
