Vive les Frenchies!

Aren’t they adorable? I was out taking photos for what may or may not be tomorrow’s post when the charming young lady on the left approached me on the Place de la Republique. “May I offer you a Coca-Cola light?” she asked with that cute little grin. Wait, what? A stranger talking to me? And offering me something for free? I started to wonder if I had somehow slipped into a different time/space convergence but…she was wearing a beret, a t-shirt marinière and ballet flats, the “Coca” can was designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier…this must be France! Heck, I don’t even drink soda but when her charming partner got in the act, how could I say no?
À demain mes chers amis…

  1. That's why I love France and plan on living there someday – if not in this life, then in the next. X Sharon

  2. Yep, just like Karl Lagerfeld did before him. What a wierd world we live in, Loree!

  3. Wonderful post and I couldn't have resisted either! They DO look adorable. A reminder too, that (most) people are well intended ..

Enjoy the start to a new week!

  4. Only in France 🙂 I had no idea that Jean-Paul Gaultier designed the Coke can. I leanr something new every day.

  5. Thanks Suze! I will totally take the hat tipping today–feeling out of sorts! And nope, it has been there–I actually cut it down from its original form which also said that I was a professional theatre actress in NY that specialized in Shakespeare before moving to France. I have a Bachelors from New York University and a Masters from the Yale School of Drama, both in acting. 🙂

And I'll have to tell Remi what you said–I KNOW that will make him laugh!!! We be oooold.

  6. Heather, I'm spacing on the actual post — for a moment I thought the pair were you and Remi! — but then I saw your new profile pic and read your entire profile on the sidebar. Is this new? The text, I mean? I didn't realize you'd graduated from Yale. That is quite the accomplishment and I tip my hat!

  7. Oh my goodness, I hope that she got a present!! I can't quite believe that Ben will soon turn six!!! And you know very well that I am usually too chicken to ask but they were happy to pose–and it shows!

Alas, that photo was the only that came out to my liking today but the important part is in the taking, isn't it? 🙂

  8. They were truly very cheery and upbeat–very unusual! And while I usually only drink soda in extreme circumstances when travelling, I have to admit it was rather tasty… :O

  9. Oh Helen, you always, always know how to make me smile. I think that if it had been me the "Professor" would have ended up in the canal!!!

And yes, I now consider myself lucky…
Wishing you a wonderful week as well,
    xo,
    H

  10. Such a great reminder to stay open, Jackie. And look, you BOTH got something out of the encounter–an exchange! And if that isn't the best of travelling then I don't know what is…

  11. Love this! Every once in a while, someone really stylish comes into the little store where I work. I wish I had the nerve to take their photo a la The Sartorialist.

    Waiting eagerly for tomorrow's post,
    Judith

P.S. As I write this, I am being nagged by you-know-who, who turned TWO yesterday! Well past time for the morning walk.

  12. Hello Heather:
Well, this charming pair look as if they could sell snow to eskimos! Surely, even the hardest of hearts and anti Coca Cola individuals [such as ourselves]could have stood up against such gentle persuasion. As you say, it has to be France……style personified!!

  13. Hello Heather

They look so adorable. I love the classic sweaters. It is the little things in life.
    The weather looks beautiful.

When my art partners and I were in Venice painting, I was off in a quiet corner by a bridge alone. A man approached me and said in broken English: "May I ask you something?"
Me: "Yes". Man: "Will you kiss my feet" Me: Raised Eyebrow "Pardon" Man: It is university/student prank and my students dared me do this…they are around the corner. I sent him packing and never did find out if this was true.

You were more fortunate as you received a gift.
    have a great week

    Helen xx

  14. One of our fondest memories of Madrid is when a teenage girl approached and in halting (but good) English asked if we had a minute. Sadly, being on alert for purse snatching, pickpockets etc, we hesitated but as she explained she and her classmates of which there were two were sent out to find and interview tourists about their impressions of Madrid. We agreed to the interview and they took our photo to prove we were real – I took their photo as well to remember the good one finds when traveling! Love this photo. . .
    xoxo j.
